GENIUS LOCI: TOWARDS A PHENOMENOLOGY OF ARCHITECTURE by CHRISTIAN NORBERG-SCHULZ Posted on April 12, 2016 by htcasif Phenomenology is a historical architectural movement in architecture which can be defined as an aspect of philosophy exploring into the experience and involvement of built environment. Christian Norberg Schulz, a Norwegian architect, author, educator and architectural theorist expresses that with the increase in the functionality, the sensorial experience went missing. Along with Schulz, the philosophers of the early 20 th century struggled to objectively study the subjective topic of phenomenology. Norberg-Schulz, Christian Architecture represents a means to give man an “existential foothold”. Man cannot gain a foothold trough scientific understanding alone.
