Medulloblastoma and other central nervous system primitive neuroectodermal tumors account for 25% of primary central nervous system neoplasms in the pediatric age range but only 1% of adult primary central nervous system neoplasms. The peak incidence is in the midportion of the first decade. The incidence declines rapidly after the mid‐teens. Medulloblastoma accounts for less than 1% of central nervous system (CNS) tumors in adults, with highest incidence in adults 20 to 34 years of age. In 1 to 2% of patients, medulloblastoma is associated with Gorlin syndrome (109400), a nevoid basal carcinoma syndrome. Medulloblastomas are the most common high grade childhood brain tumour, accounting for 15-20% of all childhood brain tumours. If your child or a child you know has recently been diagnosed with a medulloblastoma, you may be worried about what this means.
Spinal seeding at presentation is a poor prognostic factor for disease-free survival.

Adult medulloblastoma: multiagent chemotherapy. In this study, the records of 17 adult patients with medulloblastoma treated with craniospinal radiation and 1 of 2 multiagent chemotherapy protocols were reviewed for progression-free survival, overall survival, and toxicity, and the patients were compared with each other and with similarly treated …. In adults, medulloblastoma is rare, comprising fewer than 2% of CNS malignancies.

Luke's Medical Center and affiliated hospitals between 1969 and 1986. All patients had a surgical procedure (total excision in seven patients, partial resection in nine patients, and biopsy alone in one patient) followed by radiation therapy to the craniospinal axis. Medulloblastoma accounts for 16-20% of all pediatric brain tumors, and 40-50% of all cerebellar tumors in childhood are medulloblastoma. In contrast, only 1% of brain tumors in adults are medulloblastomas. Medulloblastoma occurs bimodally, with 50% occur in the fist decade of life between 3 and 4 years and 8 and 9 years of age. 2018-01-10 Medulloblastoma is a common primary brain tumor in children but it is a rare cancer in adult patients.
At least 75% of medulloblastomas occur in the cerebellum at the back and base of the brain.

Doctors have identified three subtypes of adult medulloblastoma. The differential is of a hemangioblastoma, high grade glioma, a metastasis or an adult medulloblastoma. The hypderdensity, exccentric location, and restricted diffusion are all consistent with the latter, confirmed at pathology. Because there are fewer adults with medulloblastoma than children, effective treatment regimens have yet to be established for adults.
